New Motor Vehicle Sales, Total vehicles - Short term

• Trend - The December 2010 trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales (85 906) increased by 0.2% when compared with November 2010.
• Seasonally Adjusted - The December 2010 seasonally adjusted estimate for new motor vehicle sales (86 440) increased by 0.8% when compared with November 2010.

• Trend - When comparing trend estimates for December 2010 with November 2010, sales of Passenger vehicles increased by 1.1%, while sales of Sports utility vehicles decreased by 1.6% and Other vehicles decreased by 0.1%.
• Seasonally Adjusted - When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for December 2010 with November 2010, sales of Passenger vehicles increased by 4.8%, while sales of Sports utility vehicles decreased by 10.7%. Over the same period sales of Other vehicles increased by 3.1%.

• Trend - Three of the eight states and territories contributed to the national increase in trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales when comparing December 2010 with November 2010. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage increase with 2.2%, followed by New South Wales (0.9%) and Queensland (0.1%). The Northern Territory recorded a percentage decrease of 1.2% over the same period.
• Seasonally Adjusted - In seasonally adjusted terms, sales of new motor vehicles increased in four of the eight states and territories for December 2010 when compared with November 2010. New South Wales recorded the largest percentage increase of 4.7%, followed by the Australian Capital Territory (4.6%) and Tasmania (3.1%). The largest percentage decrease for new motor vehicle sales occurred in Western Australia (4.6%).
